Tangalooma Resort on Moreton Island

Tangalooma Resort on Moreton Island

We just spent a few days on Moreton Island which is a 37km long sand island located in Moreton Bay, off the coast of Brisbane, Australia. The island covers an area of about 17700ha, and extends for 38 km from north to south. At its widest it is 8 km across. The Island lies only 35kms off Brisbane forming the eastern boundary of the Moreton Bay Marine Park. Moreton Island is 95% National Park.

Noosa in November

Noosa in November

Just spent the week in Noosa which is probably Australia’s premier holiday town.  It is on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland and has great beaches for surfing, boasts lovely warm weather, as well as being positioned on the edge of the rainforest and National Park.
This trip we were lucky enough to see two koalas in the wild munching gum leaves high in the gum trees of the National Park.  We also espied pods of dolphins frolicking in the surf as well as a few winged rays in... > Read more

New Zealand - South Island

New Zealand - South Island

Our latest home exchange is in the town of Ashburton on the South Island of New Zealand.  Ashburton is about an hour’s drive south of Christchurch. The house is very comfortable with very large grounds which include a grass tennis court and a magnificent garden which is in full bloom this springtime. Ashburton had a beautiful domain park with gardens as well as a very interesting museum and heritage centre and air museum. We even visited an automated dairy farm where the cows almost... > Read more

Sydney

Just had a terrific weekend in Sydney.  Sydney is one of my favourite places.  We stayed just opposite the Sydney Harbour Bridge with magnificent views of the  harbour.  The bridge was not only flying the Australian flag this weekend but also the flags of the Sydney (rugby – Aussie rules and League) football teams who were playing in the grand finals this weekend.  We were in Sydney for a family wedding.  The bride looked stunning and the wedding was great... > Read more

Home Exchanges

As I sit in the very comfortable business lounge in Doha, en route for my Brisbane home, I am reminiscing about the last couple of months when, once again we have enjoyed back to back house swaps.  We had 6 back to back home exchanges this trip, two in Edinburgh, one in Orkney, one in St Andrews, one in Iceland and one in Stirling.  We wanted the focus of this trip to be Scotland, and enjoyed the benefit of not only the wonderful sightseeing, but also catching up with friends and... > Read more

Stirling

Stirling

Our final house swap of this trip is in Stirling, a great central Scotland city, a the gateway to the Highlands. The area around Stirling is well worth exploring with lovely scenic car trips within a short radius.  The city itself has many interesting places to visit including Stirling Castle, the Wallace monument (a tribute to William Wallace loosely portrayed in the film Braveheart), and Stirling Church of the Holy Rude where James I and IV was crowned as a 12 month old and where John... > Read more
